Part deux of The Big Three; A Series on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. – Twitter
Twitter is an interactive and widely used (it has over 1 million users already) tool that allows people and businesses to answer the question, “what are you doing?” This provides businesses with a great opportunity to interact with employees, customers, colleagues, or anyone else and to promote themselves.
Due to its fast paced and conversational format, messages on Twitter spread quickly. People are starting to use twitter to ask questions of companies, report issues, and provide feedback, both positive and negative. Users also expect a quick response on twitter, so if you want to be a successful tweeter, make sure that your account is checked and updated regularly.
The most important part of using Twitter is to be interesting and useful. When using Twitter for business, it is essential to tweet about news, events, and business happenings, but always makes sure that your messages are valuable.
It’s true, sometimes there is not anything earth-shattering going on, but at those points, spice up something normal to tweet about, like how much you just love monkeys and then link to a funny YouTube video to go along with it. Better to be humorous then forgettable.
A word of caution: As with any social media outlet, never post something you don’t want blasted all over the media, because it could show up there. If it’s confidential, unethical, or just in poor taste, don’t tweet it.
Keep in mind that when using Twitter for business, it is important to tweet often- the more useful information you post on twitter, the more people will read it, so go and Get Your Tweet On!
